Ebook About "Wow, beautifully written. An incredibly exciting, interesting and wonderful vampire story. The romance is exquisite! A pure delight in every sense." ★★★★★Haruka is alive, but not quite living. Surviving but not thriving. As an elite purebred vampire in the twenty-first century, he is broken. Content in his subpar existence. He is done with life. But life is not finished with him. When he receives a formal request to oversee an antiquated vampire ritual at Hertsmonceux Castle, Haruka grudgingly leaves his home to meet another purebred. The vampire is not what he expects. Truly, he is unlike any vampire Haruka has ever encountered: cautious, innocent and with the warmth and gravitational pull of the sun.Book Lore and Lust: Queer Vampire Romance Series Book One Review :
When this was advertised as a slow burn romance I –like any other rational person who's used to being lied to– laughed and said 'yeah okay'. Expecting by chapter five for it all to be over and done. But Karla wasn't joking. The relationship between Haruka and Nino is one built upon trust and friendship. One so carefully crafted by the author to carry them through an array of situations. And the sexual tension? Oh god. More often than not I was borderline crazed for even the most innocent of touches. The need between them so palpable at times that I felt it like a suffocating weight on my chest.Seriously. It's not slow burn unless you rather burn alive than reach a conclusion because that's how intense it is. And then still hope it drags out longer, haha. And yet Lore & Lust is more than just a romance. It's rich in a plot full of intrigue and mystery as Haruka and Nino seek answers to the coupling bonds of vampires and also the disturbance of disappearing purebloods. The only con I would have to say for it is, while I love Karla's reimagining of modern day and old blood vampires, I do wish the matter of their "aura" and powers were better explained. It actually felt like I missed an important vampire 101 orientation for this new world and thus needed to resort to winging it until I got some semblance of understanding, and yet still I'm a bit sketchy on the idea how it interacts with everything else. But other than that, the writing is crisp and easy to get into and with a great side cast of characters, I'm positive this book will entertain you if you want that quick don't put it down fix. So I do honestly recommend it as a fun read. (joyous slow burn agony included!) This book is a bit frustrating. As already indicated, it is rather strange, even for a vampire story. It is a far cry from "Dracula" or the "Twilight" books or even "The Strain." There is nothing intrinsically wrong with introducing a new take on the vampire mythos...in fact, it is creative. What IS wrong is that there is no explanation for this new take on that mythos...we are just set down right in the middle of it. Yes, the reader does pick up bits and pieces along the way, but certain aspects are never fully explained, such as the generational differences, or who is or is not an "aristocrat." Furthermore, the pace of the book is elegiac at best. Perhaps even plodding in places, and the story never quite seems to go anywhere. All in all, rather static. The two main characters, Haruka and Nino are somewhat interesting, but they move along as though they are swimming through Jello. Nor is there much of a story beyond their evolving relationship. Furthermore, it gets a bit saccharine not to say redundant to be constantly "reminded" how beautiful they are. As for other characters, with the exception of Nino's brother Giovanni, there are none of any substance. Most of the secondary characters are little better than scenery.
